Sidney Lawrence Hiatt

Sidney Lawrence Hiatt, a resident of Ephrata, WA passed away at home August 10, 2014 at the age of 78. He was born December 3, 1935 in Vale, OR to Joel Walter and Clara Matilda Keele Hiatt.

He grew up farming and ranching with his father and brothers. He enjoyed playing baseball, football, wrestling and even boxing in high school.

Sid served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Southern States. He also served six years in the US Marine Corp. Reserve. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education from Eastern Oregon University. He married Carol Ririe on August 2, 1962 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

He taught elementary school for seven years in LaGrande and Eugene, OR. After a summer working with a beekeeper, he purchased a beekeeping business in Ephrata and in subsequent years through much work, developed a large pollination and honey production business operating in WA, CA and ND. Expanding his business, his six sons joined him in the operation, which he truly loved.

He is survived by his wife Carol, sons Tim (Holly) Steve (Jolene) Tony (Denise) all of Ephrata; Jerry (Marsha) Chris (Heather) of Madera, CA; Bryan (Jen) of Fresno, CA; brother Neil (Myrtle), sisters Alice Blackburn of Vale, OR and Avis (Al) Taylor of Kennewick, WA; 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be held Saturday August 16, 2014 at 10 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ephrata. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 9 am.
