MATTAWA - Hund Memorial Park was festive last weekend as Mattawa area residents occupied it for the annual Comm"Unity" Days.
There was music by the ever popular local rock band Groove Principal, breakfast by the Wahluke Enhancement Organization and entertainment by the boys in the Belly Busting Burrito contest.
In the burrito eating contest, Arturo Valdez, Cesar Arrieta, Fernando Valdovinos and Jack Yorgesen squared off.
Valdez and Yorgesen, champs the last two years, advanced to the hall of fame with their epic showdown. They finished one super-giant burrito in seven and 15 minutes respectively. Arrieta and Valdovinos fell short of finishing.
This year's Comm"Unity" Days sponsors, which deserve recognition, were: Eckenberg Farms, Estudillo's, GAR recycling, Hope Espresso, Iglesia de la fe en Cristo Jesus, Leland & Sons, Lep-re-kon Harvest Foods, Mattawa Area News, Mattawa Desert Aire Lions Club, Mattawa Shell, Mattawa Market, Mattawa Mart, Mi Bebe, Ruiz Daycare, Sabin Farms, Seth & Hollie Weeks, Super Fiestas, Suzett's Store, The Royal Register, Tiddaly Diddaly's, Tree Top, WEO, Wind River U.S. Cellular, Whispering Rock Orchard, Yorgeson Farms and Zirkle Fruit.
