Frontier Hospice will begin a new grief support group Aug. 21 at Rising Mountains assisted living center in Bigfork.

Facilitator Bob Thornton said he studied with one of the Flathead’s most gifted grief counselors, Lon Eliason. Thornton works as a bereavement coordinator and also as one of the two spiritual care chaplains to patients. He has participated in the medical plans for over 2,000 hospice visits and said he is drawn to do the work of helping people walk through the journey of grief.

“Everyone knows what it’s like to be left alone with their thoughts. When death visits our world, personal reflections can feel overwhelming,” Thornton said. “A group setting offers shared insights and even the shyest person will sense the welcoming environment.”

The grief group will meet on the third Thursday of every month beginning Aug. 21. The sessions will begin promptly at 6 p.m. and groups will last about one hour.

For information contact Thornton at 755-4923.
