The Daily Inter Lake | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 10 years, 5 months AGO
MISSOULA — Whitefish junior Coral Schulz won the Missoula Invitational for the second straight season, her first win as a Bulldog, on Tuesday at Canyon River Golf Club. Flathead’s Ryan Keenan finished second in the boys’ meet, tying for the best score but losing in a scorecard playoff.
Schulz, who starred at Helena Capital her first two seasons, shot a low round 5-over-par 77 on the final day to overtake the leaders and post a three-stroke victory at 151 for the tournament.
Glacier’s Teigan Avery, who led after the first day for the second straight week, fell back to the pack with a poor putting round, shooting an 81 to finish tied for second at 154.
The Glacier girls finished second as a team, losing to Missoula Hellgate, which also won last season. McKenna Hulslander (88-91–179) finished sixth for the Wolfpack and Kyersten Seibenaler (97-97–194) 14th.
The Whitefish girls finished third behind Schulz’s performance. Katie Fyall (93-90–183) finished ninth.
Morgan Knutson (86-92–178) was fifth for Flathead, which finished fifth as a team. The Bravettes’ Jenna Jensen (88-98–186) was 11th. Polson’s Heather Franck (94-88–182) was eighth and Peyton Anderson (88-100–188) 12th as the Pirates finished in ninth place.
Keenan led the boys tournament with an even par 72 final round to tie Capital’s Tevin Lewis for the low score. Lewis finished better in the scorecard playoff to take the top spot.
Keenan’s performance helped the Braves to sixth in the team race, despite being the only golfer in the top 15.
Glacier’s Tom Mann, who entered the day with the lead, finished third, shooting a 77. Wolfpack teammate Cody Sherrill (76-75–151) was fourth as the boys finished second behind Capital in the team scores.
Polson’s Carson McDaniel (77-80–157) finished 11th to lead the Pirates to a ninth place finish and Whitefish placed eighth, led by Mitch Young (81-83–164).
