Application withdrawn for wedding ranch permit

Ten Arrows Ranch owners Bill and Alana Myers have withdrawn their application for a conditional-use permit to operate their ranch as a high-impact recreational facility that would allow commercial weddings.

Their presentation to the Bigfork Land Use Advisory Committee that was scheduled for today has been canceled. The Flathead County Board of Adjustment, which would have had final say on the permit, also will not consider the application.

The application withdrawal comes just days after Alana Myers was charged with a criminal misdemeanor zoning violation for holding a commercial wedding at their facility off McCaffery Road near Bigfork.

The Myerses had applied for the same permit last November but withdrew that application, too.

Following a huge outpouring of neighborhood opposition, the couple were told last summer they could no longer stage commercial weddings at their ranch because the property isn’t zoned for that use.

The recent zoning violation charge came after emails between Alana Myers and a bride-to-be showed Myers had accepted money for the wedding, thereby making it a commercial activity.

County Planning Director BJ Grieve said in an email memorandum Wednesday that his office will continue to “reasonably investigate credible complaints and/or new evidence of land uses” occurring on the Ten Arrows Ranch that aren’t permitted by the current zoning or that are being conducted without the appropriate permitting.

“However, the Myers will not be prevented from or harassed while using their property for the myriad personal and private activities that are not regulated by the Flathead County zoning regulations,” he advised.
