Brian Beach of Missoula, Cody Sherrill of Kalispell, Justin Dorr of Spokane and Kyle Mossfeldt of Whitefish all shot 6-under 60s Saturday to tie for the top spot on the leaderboard at the 77th International Labor Day Tournament at Buffalo Hill Golf Club.
Pavel Danuta of Kalispell is holding down fifth place and is just one shot back.
Former champion Scott Desmarais of Calgary, Alberta, Brad Grattan of Whitefish, Ryggs Johnson, an eighth grader from Libby, and Ryan Buls of Kalispell are tied for sixth with 63s.
Mossfeldt was a Labor Day runner-up last year.
The men played two rounds on the Cameron Nine the first day, with 18 players breaking par.
Sarah Moodie of Vancouver, British Columbia, carded a 1-over 75 to lead the women’s field. Moodie tied for second here last year.
Kali Gordon, a former champion from Okotoks, Alberta, is second and one shot back and Janell Tanner-O’Neal of Bigfork is third with an 81.
Rounding out the top five are Donna Wehlage of Milk River, Alberta, with an 82 and Wendy Madison of Kalispell is next with an 84.
The women played the Championship 18.
It was a rough start, however, for a pair of two-time defending champs from Kalispell.
Logan Lindholm shot a 67 while Teigan Avery, a junior at Glacier High School, carded an 86, which had her in ninth place.
Play continues today.
The 54-hole tournament ends Monday.
