Council mulls local option taxes

SANDPOINT — Booze is back on the agenda Wednesday as council members discuss whether or not to add an additional tax on beer, wine and liquor by the drink.

A topic first raised at the last council meeting in August, the proposed tax on alcohol by the drink served at restaurants and bars would join an established resort city tax on hotel room stays under 30 days in length. The taxes, which attempt to target goods and services commonly used by out-of-town guests, are meant to offset the impact to local infrastructure and city staff hours by the tourism industry
