The Glacier Institute recently was awarded a $36,000 Tourism Infrastructure Investment Program grant through the Montana Department of Tourism.

TIIP grants are awarded on an annual basis to eligible nonprofit sponsors, communities and tribal nations for the construction of new tourism facilities, enhancement of existing facilities, and the preservation of Montana’s heritage and cultural tourism treasures.

The Glacier Institute will use the grant funds for to build three handicapped accessible cabins at their Field Camp education facility in Glacier National Park. Construction will start next year.

TIIP grants are awarded through a competitive process and require a one-third match. The family of John Bali and Janet A. Flury made the donor contribution to honor the memory of Janet’s mother, Norma Jean Nowakowski.

“Norma taught her children to pursue both their education and their dreams with equal fervor,” Flury said. “She and my father made many sacrifices to provide their children with the best education, both indoors and out.”
