COEUR d’ALENE — An armed fugitive who barricaded himself inside a Coeur d’Alene home Saturday night killed himself, according to Idaho State Police.
An autopsy of John David Crispin, 37, concluded that the man died from “an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest,” stated ISP spokeswoman Teresa Baker.
The standoff began after Crispin’s ex-wife alerted police that the wanted man was armed and inside her home on Quincy Court, in the Landings neighborhood. Multiple agencies responded and officers spent several hours attempting to contact Crispin by phone and with a bullhorn.
His wife told police that Crispin — whose criminal history includes several violent crimes — said he would not return to jail.
At 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Crispin fired at least one round from a weapon and officers returned fire. No officers were injured in the exchange.
Crispin was wanted by multiple jurisdictions and eluded police in October after allegedly attempting to use a vehicle to run over a Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police officer during a Plummer traffic stop.
