Suspect surprises Post Falls homeowner, police

POST FALLS - A suspect who allegedly ransacked a Post Falls home emerged from a bedroom while a police officer was investigating the residence.
Kyle A. Zanze, 22, Hayden, was arrested Sunday for unlawful entry. He was being held Tuesday at the Kootenai County jail on a $300 bond.
The owner of the home on Ross Point Road told police he returned to his house to find it had been ransacked and that his truck had been loaded with belongings, from inside his residence.
The male told police that he didn't find anyone at the home, but several items had been damaged. The man said the house had been searched, saying many items had been moved, a pair of diamond earrings owned by his wife were missing and a guest bed had been used while he was gone.
There was graffiti on the bathroom mirror, and two hats and a pair of shoes that didn't belong to the homeowner or anyone in his family were found inside, the police report stated. It also appeared that someone attempted to break into the shop outside.
"As I was photographing the inside of the residence, a bedroom door opened and there was a male in a plaid shirt inside the downstairs back bedroom," the police report states.
Zanze told the officer that he was staying at the home with a friend named "Heather," and that her father owns the residence. However, the homeowner told police that he does not know Zanze or anyone named Heather.
"I asked Kyle what he was doing at the residence and Kyle stated he was just here to sleep and was trying to get back to Fresh Start (homeless shelter) in Coeur d'Alene," the report states.
The officer wrote that Zanze provided inconsistent information throughout the interview.
"It should be noted that Kyle did not know what Heather's father's name was, although Kyle stated that he met Heather's father," the officer wrote.
The officer wrote that Zanze demanded to be taken to Fresh Start and attempted to leave the patrol car after he had been arrested.
Later in the day, while the homeowner was emptying his truck, he called police to report that a female's driver's license, two pieces of mail and a journal that didn't belong to his family had been packed into one of his wife's bags.
The license, police said, belongs to an apparent victim of a grand theft on Oct. 23.
The homeowner also provided police the memory card of his camera as the suspects apparently had taken photos of themselves with it. In one of the photos, a white female was wearing sunglasses owned by the homeowner's wife. Another photo was of a white male who isn't Zanze, wearing a Raiders beanie hat.
A neighbor told police that he saw people at the home on Saturday, but he did not report the activity because he did not realize the homeowner wasn't in town.
Zanze has been booked into the local jail five times in the past two years, including for disturbing the peace, drugs, battery and driving without privileges.
