Crimestoppers is asking Flathead Valley citizens for help in finding the people responsible for the recent string of storage-unit thefts across the valley. According to liaison Joy Ortiz, someone usually cuts the lock off of a unit and replaces it with a different lock. The suspect then returns later and removes items from the unit, acting as if it’s their own.
If you have a storage unit, you are encouraged to check it to be sure your lock is still there. If it isn’t, report it immediately to law enforcement. Ortiz also suggests that regular padlocks be replaced with a disk lock, which cannot be cut off with bolt cutters.
If you have any information on this or any other crime you may qualify for a cash reward. All calls are anonymous. Crimestoppers can be reached at (406) 752-TIPS (8477).
