MILLIE: Pity her palpable reproach
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years, 9 months AGO
I feel sorry for Millie Hayes. Her palpable reproach for Post Falls is a vague disguise for some other insecurity; perhaps she cannot afford to live in (or return to) California.
While our community heaped its approval for Millie’s return to her homeland, and generously offered to financially provide for her escape, it is clear she is being held here against her will. Poor Millie! She is stuck in a town that is overwhelmed with fresh air, clean water, kind citizens, respectful and protective police officers, wonderful schools and lovely scenery. She has to live in an area where the department stores she favors are as much as 15 MILES AWAY.
I’ve had the pleasure of traveling to every corner of this country; if Millie was more eloquently versed on the current statuses — socio-economic and otherwise — of other cities all across America, she would appreciate how exceptional our community is, in terms of landscape, climate, recreation, community involvement, crime rate, shopping opportunities, etcetera. Millie deserves our compassion and sympathy, for she is impaired, NOT by her opinions or personal disdain for our community, but for her willingness to publicly speak such unkind words about a town most of us feel honored to call “home.” She was right about one thing only: She doesn’t fit in.
