SPOKANE — Whitney Meier and Natalie Wheelock hit two 3-pointers each in the third quarter, helping guide the Lake City Timberwolves past the West Valley Eagles 60-53 in the Border Clash on Friday at West Valley High.

Meier scored 11 points, and Wheelock and Clarissa Smith had 10 points each for Lake City, which outscored West Valley 20-12 in the third quarter to take a 46-36 lead.

“We came out with some better energy in the second half,” Lake City coach Bryan Kelly said. “We came out kind of flat in the first half. We’re learning to compete and trying to sustain that competitive edge through the game and need to do a better job of finishing games.”

Keara Simpson had seven points and seven rebounds for Lake City (3-1), which faces North Central today at 2:15 at West Valley High.

Former Coeur d’Alene Viking Erin Higbie led West Valley (0-2) with 12 points.
