MILITARY: Boos for anti-war songs
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years, 3 months AGO
Mr. Ron Booth wonders if all veterans are war mongers because of our dislike of anti-war songs …? I don’t like anti-war songs, anti-war demonstrators, anti-war signs, or anything else of that nature — why? Because they are, like it or not, anti-military.
I was in Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco during the Vietnam War, ground zero for the anti-war movement. Wearing a uniform off the hospital grounds, on a bus or anywhere in that city, was very uncomfortable and we were warned not to do it. Civilian clothes were no guarantee you wouldn’t be singled out by some zealot either. Short hair, military shoes and crutches or a cane could give you away.
These anti-war enthusiasts were largely people my age (my peers) and the ones I came into contact with were mostly students, morally and intellectually superior, and most definitely anti-military.
As a result, my feelings toward these people to this day are less than … friendly. Mr. Booth thinks I should feel appreciative of his beautiful anti-war music? Ain’t gonna happen!
