MINERAL COUNTY – A traffic accident Sunday evening near Superior resulted in one fatality after a tractor-trailer ran off Interstate 90 westbound and crashed into a housing development.
The driver was declared deceased at Mineral Community Hospital and his identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. While both residences impacted by the rig were occupied at the time of the accident, there were no injuries reported.
Montana Highway Patrol responded to the accident at approximately 7:30 p.m. along with members of the Superior Volunteer Fire Department and the Superior Ambulance services. MHP Trooper Charles Burton said the cause of the accident was unknown at this time.
“We still don’t know at this point,” Burton said. “That will come from the coroner’s report and the crime lab. They will see if there was any medical issue that may have caused this.”
Burton said it took several hours for the wreckage to be removed from the location. Both residences suffered severe damage as a result of the accident.
