NIC's Seidl selected an NJCAA All-American
Maddi Seidl, a 5-foot-8 sophomore setter from North Idaho College, was named to NJCAA All-American Division I second team.
Seidl was second in the Scenic West Athletic Conference with 9.34 assists per set (542 total), with 27 kills, 135 digs and 11 blocks for NIC, which finished 11-11.
Carol Grasso, a 5-6 outside hitter from Salt Lake and Natasa Savovic, a 5-11 outside hitter from Southern Idaho were selected to the first team.
CSI (35-3) finished third and Salt Lake (24-10) was ninth at the NJCAA tournament.
Chloe Watson, a 5-9 outside hitter from CSI was also named to the second team and Delayne Daniel, a 5-9 outside hitter from Snow, was an honorable mention.
Talley named NWAC men's soccer Athlete of the Year
North Idaho College sophomore Adam Talley was named the Northwest Athletic Conference Baden Athlete of the Year for men's soccer.
Talley's 20 goals led the league in scoring and broke the NIC mark of 18 set by Garga Caserta in 2005. Talley also led the team in goals in 2013, despite missing five games due to injury.
"In addition to being a constant threat to score, Adam gave us several goal-scoring opportunities in his near-perfect possession," NIC men's soccer coach Ken Thompson said. "His ability to run down opponents defensively also allowed the team to with the ball back quickly."
Talley was a major force behind the Cardinals' 17-2-2 season in which they led the conference in goals scored with 56. The program made it to the NWAC final in its first year back in the conference, finishing second out of the 21-team conference, finishing with a national ranking of 18th.
From Newman Lake, Wash., the East Valley High graduate was a multi-sport athlete and class president his junior year. He intends to pursue a bachelor's degree in either Criminal Justice or Sociology, but hasn't decided on a four-year school yet.
Shock assigned a pair of linemen
The Spokane Shock have been assigned offensive lineman Alex Monroe and defensive lineman Ronnell Lewis to the 2015 roster.
Monroe (6-foot-5, 315 pounds, from Bethune-Cookman) joins the Shock for his rookie season as a member of the Arena Football League after completing his collegiate career at Bethune-Cookman. A four-year starter for the Wildcats, Monroe saw action in more than 500 plays during his junior season as he helped pave the way for Isidore Jackson to gain 1,069 rushing yards, the first time a Wildcat back rushed for over 1,000 yards since 1997. In his four years at the school, Bethune-Cookman played in the FCS playoffs twice, finishing with an overall record of 36-11.
Lewis (6-3, 260, Oklahoma) joins the Shock for his rookie season as a member of the AFL after being drafted by the NFL's Detroit Lions in 2012, where he saw action in eight games and recorded a pair of tackles. At Oklahoma, Lewis competed in 34 total contests and started 14 with 118 total tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.
Lakeland High's Deeter signs to play soccer at NAIA Corban
SALEM, Ore. - Corban University men's soccer coach Aaron Lewis announced three signings for the 2015 recruiting class.
Among the signings is Lakeland senior midfielder Kyle Deeter.
During his freshman year, Deeter led the Hawks to a regional championship and fourth place finish in the state 4A tournament and as a sophomore led the Hawks to a 4A Inland Empire League title and regional title as a junior as the Hawks finished third at state.
At the club level, Deeter qualified for the 2014 National Cup after winning the Northwest Regional Championship. He was also a member of the Champions League for The Academy Idaho. In addition, he was a member of the under-18 men's division championship team for the 2014 Blue Mountain Exchange.
"Kyle is a skillful midfielder that has the ability to create for himself, and vision and tactical awareness to make his teammates better," Lewis said. "He has a competitiveness and will to improve that our staff is thrilled to add to our already motivated group."
The school has also added Nic Farr, a defender/midfielder/forward from Cascade High in Oregon and Joseph King, a forward from Stillwater Christian in Kalispell, Mont.
