A Coeur d'Alene man and two teens were arrested Wednesday in connection to a string of early morning auto burglaries.
Coeur d'Alene Police Department officers were notified at 2 a.m. on Wednesday that males were entering parked cars on Hawk Owl Street in The Hawk's Nest subdivision. According to a press release from the department, the resident who called police attempted to contact the burglars but they fled on foot.
When officers went to the area to investigate, they discovered a purple Camaro with front end damage parked in the area. According to the release, neighbors contacted by officers did not recognize the car.
At 7 a.m., someone who lives in the neighborhood saw the Camaro parked in front of a store at the Silver Lake Mall and called the police.
"Patrol officers were able to make contact with a male juvenile who owned the car," the release state. "The 17-year-old juvenile admitted to his role in the auto burglaries and identified two males involved."
The release adds that the teen told officers the trio had been to several neighborhoods, including Fairway Forest and the Cedarwood Estates, on Tuesday night and the early morning hours of Wednesday.
"Detectives recovered cash, sunglasses, and headphones from his vehicle that was determined to be stolen property," the release states. "A victim that lives in Fairway Forest reported missing $5,500 in cash."
After the teen admitted to the burglaries, detectives drove him around the neighborhoods where the crimes allegedly occurred. According to the release, they were able to determine which cars were entered and return stolen property and cash to the victims.
Jordan Spooner, 18, of Coeur d'Alene was later arrested at his home for his alleged role in the crimes. Another teenage suspect was arrested at his school.
All three were charged with eight counts of auto burglary and are being held at the Kootenai County jail and Juvenile Detention Center.
