COEUR d'ALENE - A whole play in just one day? You better believe it.
Christian Youth Theater-North Idaho and Chill Bucket Productions will present "Jack and the Beanstalk" for the sixth annual "Play in a Day" event, taking place Dec. 30 in the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Coeur d'Alene.
Actors and actresses ages 8-18 will be presenting the musical version of "Beanstalk" with just 24 hours to prepare. Beginning at 4 p.m. Dec. 29, kids will gather at the Kroc Center for the opportunity to be a part of the production. After a swift audition process, the cast will meet to obtain scripts, ask questions and receive directions before they head home for the evening.
An overnight crew of teens will work into the morning to create the sets, props and costumes for the play. The day crew will arrive at 6 a.m. Dec. 30 to move it all into the theater, and at 7 a.m., the cast will arrive to rehearse and put on the show. By 7:30 that evening, the curtain will open for audiences to enjoy "Beanstalk."

In other CYT-NI news, winter class registration is now open for kids ages 6-18. The winter session will include 10 weekly classes of drama, dance, voice and other theater specialties. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills by learning from experienced teachers, performers and technicians while having fun and making friends. The final week of class, students will display a portion of what they have learned by participating in a high-energy showcase for family and friends.
Enrolled students ages 8-18 are also eligible to audition for this session's CYT Broadway-style musical, "Pocahontas."
Winter classes are $175 per student. Sibling discounts save $20 per additional child and the early bird discount saves $25 when registered by Dec. 16. Scholarship assistance is available; scholarship applications must be received before the early bird deadline.
