Girls basketball: Whitefish spills Stevensville

MISSOULA — Haley Nicholson broke loose for 14 points and Dani Douglas helped out with 12 as Whitefish dumped Stevensville 40-34 at the girls Northwest and Southwest Class A Tip-Off Classic basketball tournament Friday afternoon at the University of Montana.

Whitefish (1-1) trailed 14-12 at intermission but used back-to-back 14-point quarters in the second half to come out on top.

Whitefish went 1-19 last season.

Action continues today with Whitefish playing Anaconda at 5 p.m. Stevensville faces Columbia Falls at 9 a.m.

MISSOULA — Dayln Germany hit a big field goal with 1:30 to play, putting Libby (1-1) on top for good as the Loggers escaped with a victory over Corvallis.

Germany’s shot gave Libby a 34-32 lead. That was her lone score in the contest. Libby (1-1) trailed by five points midway through the fourth quarter.

Hailey Craig hits six 3s and finished with 18 points for Libby.

Libby plays Hamilton today at 3 p.m. Corvallis and Frenchtown meet at 11 a.m.

MISSOULA — Columbia Falls took an early lead and that margin proved to be the difference for the Wildkats (3-0).

Miranda Livingston tossed in 13 points to pace the Wildkats. Cydney Finberg added nine.

Columbia Falls plays Stevensville at 9 a.m. today while Dillon meets Ronan at 7 p.m.

MISSOULA — Frenchtown scored the final three points to pull out a tight win over Bigfork.

Lana Berg led the Valkyries with 19 points. Miranda Campbell had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Mattie McAnally, who was 8 of 11 shooting from the free throw line, had 10 points and five assists.

Bigfork (0-1) plays Polson today at 1 p.m. Frenchtown faces Corvallis at 11 a.m.
