SANDPOINT — Despite superficial appearances, Kalispel and European-based heritages aren’t all that different on a fundamental level.

In the end, the similarities — including a love of music, games and family — outweigh the differences. Farmin Stidwell Elementary students got a firsthand look Thursday during a special assembly hosted by the Idaho Mythweaver, a cross-cultural organization that promotes and honors the legacy of American Indian culture.

Kayleen Sherwood and her mother, Wilma Cullooyah, headed up the presentation, transitioning from discussions of music to games and family life.

“We are a very traditional family,” said Cullooyah. “It’s a good life.”
