MERIDIAN (AP) - Three people have been transported to the hospital after a nine-vehicle pileup involving a tractor-trailer in southwest Idaho.

Idaho State Police say the crash occurred in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 in Meridian during the Thursday morning commute.

The crash closed westbound lanes for about four hours before reopening just before noon.

Police say two of the three sustained serious injuries, but they aren't considered life-threatening.

A hazardous materials team responded due to spilled diesel fuel.

Authorities are investigating and haven't provided a cause for the crash.
