It's a holiday tradition with an open-door policy, and all are welcome to step inside.

The North Idaho Bed and Breakfast Association's annual Christmas Open House Tour takes place from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, with five bed and breakfasts participating this year.

"We do this as a thank-you to the community for sending friends and families to us to stay with us when they're visiting," said Tina Hough, co-owner of The Roosevelt Inn in Coeur d'Alene, a regular on the association's Christmas tour.

During the tour, refreshments will be served at each location, and some stops will have entertainment. The only admission fee is a can of food for each bed and breakfast visited, or a donation to Press Christmas for All.

The bed and breakfasts are all decorated for the holiday season.

"It's a fun experience," Hough said. "We have people that do it every year because it's a part of Christmas."

At The Roosevelt - built in 1905, the first permanent school in Coeur d'Alene - there is a Christmas tree in every guest room, Hough said.

"We really get into the holidays. We just love to have people come and experience that," she said.

The bed and breakfasts on this year's tour are:

* Siri Christina, 202 River St., Wallace

* McFarland Inn, 601 E. Foster Ave., Coeur d'Alene

* Roosevelt Inn, 105 E. Wallace Ave., Coeur d'Alene

* Log Spirit, 31328 N. Tiara Lane, Athol

* Talus Rock, 291 Syringa Heights Road, Sandpoint
