MILLIE: I'm on her side, folks
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 11 years AGO
Whatever happened to free speech? It is sad that today you can’t express your opinion without stupid repercussions. Everything today must be politically correct — or P.C. as they call it.
I’ve meant to write this for a couple of weeks now and kept putting it off until I read this morning’s paper and all the Millie bashing. I will probably receive the same; maybe not.
I was born in South Gate, Calif. — in Southern California. Lived there for 73 years. The best place in the world. You can find anything you want there. The weather is the best in the world (I never worried a minute about earthquakes — the only people who do are those who don’t live there). There’s the ocean (beautiful), the mountains (snow, if you happen to want it), shopping, restaurants — anything you want — and some you don’t these days, I admit. You just can’t control the world though — stuff happens.
There are too many people — too many fast cars — that’s the main difference that I see. If they would enforce the laws it would help a lot. That goes for the entire country.
The thing I like most of all about Idaho is the 25 mph speed limit — probably because I’m old. It is beautiful also but I hate the ice and snow, cold winters but that’s probably because I grew up in the best place in the world with the best weather.
It appears that a lot of you don’t like criticism. It’s likely due to not experiencing anything better. There are many Californians up here so I don’t understand why you resent an opinion. Anyone who grew up in California in the ‘30s and ‘40s I’m sure would tell you there was no place better.
As to why I’m here (before you tell me to go back), I have family here — two great-grandsons. I wouldn’t want to leave. Also the family feels as most of you do and would never move back to California. So, I’m stuck here. I’ve been here 11 years and have met a lot of very nice people — a lot of them from California. Like it or not you must admit Idaho lacks a lot but if you’ve never lived anyplace else you wouldn’t know.
This is not meant to be a spiteful letter. I just got tired of all the California and Millie bashing. Maybe some of you letter writers should open up your minds and hearts and try to understand a little.
