Lake City High seniors Jerry Louie-McGee and Kirk McKenzie, Coeur d’Alene High senior Drew Berger and Post Falls senior Justin Farnsworth were named to the 5A first team as the all-Idaho high school football selections were announced Sunday by The Idaho Statesman newspaper of Boise.
Lakeland senior Cade Coffey was named to the 4A first team, and Timberlake senior Daniel Buck was named to the 3A first team.
Louie-McGee, who made the team at wide receiver, had 1,104 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, 757 rushing yards and seven TDs, and four kick returns for scores.
“Every time this kid touches the ball, you hold your breath,” Mountain View coach Judd Benedick told the Statesman.
McKenzie, named as a defensive back, had 69 tackles, 14 for loss, four fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles. He also rushed for 275 yards and seven TDs.
“Did whatever we asked him to do,” Lake City coach Van Troxel said.
Berger, a linebacker who has verbally committed to Boise State, had 93 tackles, nine for loss, three sacks, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
“A very physical player,” Coeur d’Alene coach Shawn Amos said.
Farnsworth, a center, led an offensive line that helped the Trojans average 27.5 points per game.
“Justin had a very successful career at Post Falls,” Trojans coach Jeff Hinz said. “He rogressed from his sophomore to senior year in becoming a dominant lineman.”
Coffey, a punter and placekicker named to the all-Idaho first team for the second straight year, has verbally committed to Idaho. “He flips the field with his long punts,” Lakeland coach Tim Kiefer said, and with his strong leg, the Hawks “were a threat to score from the 38-yard line in,” Kiefer added.
Buck, a running back, rushed for 942 yards and 18 touchdowns, and averaged 6.5 yards per carry.
Lake City senior offensive lineman Zion Dixon, Coeur d’Alene senior linebacker Myles Flanagan and Coeur d’Alene senior defensive back Ryan Walde were named to the 5A second team.
Timberlake senior Bryan Mason made the 3A second team as an offensive lineman and defensive lineman.
Four St. Maries players — senior wide receiver Josh Richmond, senior offensive lineman Jordan McIntyre, senior defensive lineman Logan Feasline and junior linebacker Chase Truscott — were named to the 2A second team.
