Sheriff's Office warns of new scam

EPHRATA - The Grant County Sheriff's Office is warning the public of a new scam that has been hitting numerous Columbia Basin residents over the past couple of weeks.
The Sheriff's Office is currently investigating several reports and complaints from people who received a fraudulent text message, according to the sheriff's office.
The text message is advising the receiver to call a toll-free number and enter their credit card information.
The text messages states, "Visa Cardmember Service ALERT: Your Visa CheckCard is locked. *Please call VISA Card Services line (509) 855-5517."
Once a person calls the number, an automated system instructs them to enter their credit card number, the three-digit code on the back of their credit card and their Personal Identification Number, also known as a PIN.
"This is a scam. Please do not fall victim to these con artists," warned the Sheriff's Office in a prepared statement.
