PREP BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Top-ranked Lakeland romps past East Valley

RATHDRUM - Slader Ray scored 12 of his 14 points in the first half, and Jay Plunkett added 11 points and eight rebounds as the Lakeland Hawks used a fast start to whip the East Valley Knights 63-38 in nonleague play Tuesday at Hawk Court.
Tyrel Derrick added 10 points and eight assists for Lakeland (6-0).
"Our big guys ran the floor well," Lakeland assistant coach Bill Ryan said. "Slader Ray really dominated the first half; that was a lot of Tyrel's assists."
Derrick also had several assists to Plunkett in the second half.
"That's just something we try to do, get our big guys to get down the floor in any transition situation we get," Ryan said.
Jacob Tanner hit three of his four 3-pointers in the second quarter, and finished with 12 points for East Valley.
Earlier in the day, Lakeland ascended to No. 1 in 4A in this week's Idaho high school boys media poll.
"If nothing else, it's a credit to how hard our kids have worked to this point," Ryan said.
Lakeland plays at Post Falls on Friday in the Prairie Pig game.

Christian Jensensky had six points and three blocks and Nick Beck had three assists for North Idaho Christian (2-3, 1-3 MCL), which faces Christian Heritage on Friday at Woodland Middle School.

Tyler Hearon scored 11 points and Caleb Symons had eight points and 15 rebounds for Genesis Prep (6-1, 3-0 MCL), which travels to The Oaks on Friday.
Noah Howard scored 16 points for Christian Center (4-1, 3-1), which faces Christian Heritage on Thursday at the HUB Sports Center in Liberty Lake.
