PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Top-ranked Timberlake rallies past Sandpoint
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 10 years, 1 month AGO
SPIRIT LAKE - Allison Kirby scored 12 of her game-high 21 points in the second half as the 3A Timberlake Tigers, ranked No. 1 in the most recent media poll, rallied to beat the 4A Sandpoint Bulldogs 44-32 in a nonleague game on Tuesday at Timberlake High.
Timberlake, which trailed 23-17 at halftime, held Sandpoint, ranked No. 2 in 4A, to nine second-half points.
"I was really impressed with our defensive effort," Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. "Sandpoint is a great offensive team. (Madi) Schoening and (Grace) Kirscher are great offensive players. To hold a high powered offense to nine in the second half was impressive. The girls did a good job of protecting our lead down the stretch."
Schoening scored nine points and Kirscher added points for Sandpoint (5-4), which is at Bonners Ferry on Friday for the Moose Madness spirit games.
Lilly Kelley and Payten Rhodes scored eight points each for Timberlake (10-1), which travels to West Valley on Friday.
