COEUR d'ALENE - A 7-year-old boy is in critical condition after a near-drowning at the Spring Hill Suites hotel pool on Friday evening.

Coeur d'Alene Police responded to the hotel at 2250 Seltice Way at 6:30 p.m. The child's father and a hotel guest who is EMT-trained performed CPR on the child, and police and Coeur d'Alene Fire EMS personnel continued lifesaving measures upon arrival.

The boy had a heartbeat but remained unresponsive, police reported. He was transported by helicopter to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, where he was listed in critical condition on Friday night.

Family members, who are visiting the area from Missoula, told detectives the child had been swimming in the deep end of the pool with his 12-year-old brother. The child's father was in the same room with them in the hot tub, police reported. No other people were in the pool area at the time.

The 7-year-old had been diving into the water and swimming to the bottom of the pool. After he didn't surface his brother found him underwater. He alerted his father and they pulled the victim from the pool and called 911, police reported.
