Ephrata run part of world record attempt

EPHRATA - Basin residents will have the chance to attempt a world record next month by participating in Ulbfit's Work Out World 1 mile and 3.1 mile run or walk.
At noon on Jan. 3, runners and walkers in thousands of locations in the United States and around the world will begin to workout - in the hopes of setting the record for the world's largest simultaneous group workout. The event is sponsored by ViSalus, the company behind the Body by Vi weight loss challenge.
The company is hosting the world record challenge as a way to help people kick off their New Year's health resolutions. They will also donate 30 meals via their PROJECT 10 Kids campaign to help a child on the road to better nutrition, according to the company's website.
Christine Quantz, Ulbfit owner, said she heard about the world record attempt and wanted to give area residents a chance to participate. They routinely hold runs throughout the year, she said, and this one seemed like a fun one to throw in as well.
Both the 1 mile and 3.1 mile runs will start and finish at the Ephrata High School parking lot. Race number pickup and late registration begins at 11 a.m.
There is no cost to register for the race, said Quantz. Both distances will start at noon sharp.
