Fred, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home with his wife at his side on Dec. 19, 2014. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, never complaining.
Fred was born in Brackenheim, Germany, on May 21, 1943. He immigrated to the United States in 1953 aboard the S.S. America, United States Lines. After graduation from Aurora High School in Colorado in 1962, Fred enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. While stationed at M.C.A.S. in Yuma, Ariz., he met and married his soulmate and best friend, Linda.
Fred and Linda were married 47 years and had two sons, Frederick Schroeder of Kittanning, Pa. and Michael (Luciana) Schroeder of Dover, Mass. Fred is also survived by four grandchildren; his brother Raymond (Kathy) Schroeder of Post Falls, Idaho; his sister Charlotte (Paul) Meier of lnarajan, Guam; along with many nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Charlotte Schroeder, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Fred and Linda wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the doctors, nurses, coordinators and staff at the V.A. hospitals in Spokane and Seattle, Wash., and Portland, Ore. Fred said everyone was so wonderful, went above and beyond, and he will always be thankful. They would also like to thank everyone at Hospice of North Idaho and say you are all truly wonderful - your caring, strength and comfort is greatly appreciated.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at their home. In lieu of flowers please donate to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, Idaho.
