The Greenchain split up this weekend with most of the team going to Eureka to compete in the Buzz Lucey tournament in Eureka, while Dylan Roby, Zach Crace and Garret Chapel traveled to Coeur d’Alene to wrestle in the Tri-State tournament.

Greenchain Coach Kelly Morford said he was impressed with the way Crace wrestled in the Tri-State tournament, which featured some of the best wrestlers in the Northwest. Crace went 5-1 in his matches Dec. 19-20.

“He wrestled the best he has in his career,” said Morford.

Crace’s lone loss came to the eventual champ at 152 pounds. Crace fell 8-3, and gave up two of those points late in the match. They were the only points he would surrender for the entire tournament. Third place earned Crace a serious piece of hardware. The previous year he took 7th place at the tournament.

Garret Chapel wrestled at 170 pounds and didn’t place. He went 2-2 in the tournament and Morford said he still really wasn’t able to find his groove. Morford said Chapel will continue working hard and make improvements.

“We’ll get it figured out,” Morford said.

Dylan Roby wrestled at 132 and also didn’t place. Morford saw some positive things in Roby’s matches and said his goals of placing at state will continue to drive the senior.

Libby placed 42 out of 65 teams at the tournament.
