Assistant Greenchain coach John Love took a group of wrestlers, many of them underclassmen, to Eureka over the weekend to wrestle in the Buzz Lucey Tournament. The Greenchain placed 11 out of 12 teams, but coach Love said wins and losses aren’t tantamount in Morford wrestling. What matters is good fundamentals and making progress where it needs to be made.

“We did well,” said Love, “we took a bunch of young kids and they are right at the level they should be this time of year.”

Michael Miller took fourth place wrestling at 160 pounds, as did Laine Young at 126 pounds.

Laine Young’s performance was singled-out. The freshman wrestler bounced back from a loss earlier in the season to Dillon Thorsteinson of Whitefish. That kind of victory shows progress, which is just what Greenchain wrestling strives for.

After a tough early season schedule Greenchain wrestlers will get a break until Dec. 29 when they resume practice.

Their next competition is scheduled for Jan.2-3 in Ronan for the Western Montana Duals.
