Fear of the unknown affects everybody in different ways. For people facing asbestos related disease, Liz Erickson wants to help address their concerns and build confidence through education and religion.

Erickson is a registered nurse who holds a bachelor’s of science in nursing. In her time working at a local hospital she saw needs not fully being addressed. “I’m looking to bring a spiritual aspect to people’s healthcare team,” said Erickson.

With years of experience and numerous resources in the community, Erickson hopes to facilitate members of the community facing asbestos-related health challenges by providing support and connecting them to professionals who may be able to help their unique issues.

Erickson said, “The more people are informed, the less they are fearful.”

Fear can lead to depression, and depression can be debilitating. In Erickson’s experience, “When people mentally check out, things can go bad.”

Erickson said she is unaware of any group in Libby that serves the function of an asbestos support group.

Starting in January, Erickson will be leading a series of Christian-based, Bible-based classes aimed at empowering attendees. She will provide information gleaned from her years of experience as a nurse and relate that knowledge to teachings from the bible.
