The Lincoln County public libraries will be presenting a full calendar of events in January.

Libraries in Eureka, Troy and Libby host story times for preschool age children. The Libby library holds story time every Tuesday at 10 a.m., Troy library is every Friday at 11:15 a.m. and Eureka library is scheduled every Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

The Troy library will host chess games every Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Players are encouraged to bring a playing partner and a board if they have one, but some boards are available at the library. Teachers and mentors are also available.

The Libby library is hosting Tech Thursday, every Thursday in January from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. These informative workshops will provide basic instruction for a wide variety of common technology gadgets. For those who can’t make Thursdays, an additional session is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24.

All libraries are closed on Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day, as well as Jan. 10 for in-service training. All libraries are also closed on Jan. 17.

Libby library’s after school program, “old rock day,” will be held at 4 p.m. on Jan. 7 for children age 6 to 12. The program will teach children about rocks and fossils, with rock painting projects for the kids to take home.

Libby Friends of the Library has scheduled a book sale for 10 a.m. on Jan. 9. The sale will be open until 5 p.m. and feature books, movies and music. All proceeds support the library.

The Jan. 14 after school program for children age 6 to 12 begins at 4 p.m. and will celebrate hot tea month with a tea party. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed pet or toy and join the party.

Also on Jan. 14 the libraries, in partnership with Hometown Humanities, will present a thought-provoking speaker/discussion series, “Race in Montana,” in which we discuss race relations and how they have shaped Montana.  Each presentation will focus on a particular ethnic group—exploring their history and culture—to gain a better understanding of their perspective as Montanans. The series will start with “Blackfeet Worldview.” The event will kick off at at 6 p.m. at the Cabinet Mountain Brewery in Libby.

The Eureka library will be hosting Audra Loyal of The Vespiary Book Restoration & Bindery at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 20, She will present a discussion of the evolution of the book as object, its importance as a means of communication, the differences between physical and digital reading, and the proliferation of book-arts in the modern era. After the discussion, there will be a book binding workshop. The event will be held at the National Hotel Building in Eureka.

The Jan. 21 Libby library after school program is a celebration of reading for children age 6 to 12. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite book and to share why it is their favorite. The event begins at 4 p.m. The final after school program for the month is scheduled for Jan. 28 and will celebrate National Puzzle Week. Children will be making their own jigsaw puzzles to take home.

University of Montana professor Caroline Patterson will visit the Libby library at 2 p.m. on Jan. 24 for the Writer’s Workshop Series. This workshop will focus on point of view, free refreshments will be provided.

Jan. 30, the last Friday of the month, is library amnesty day. Any overdue library materials less than 90 days overdue and in good condition may be returned and will have all penalties waived. Overdue interlibrary loan materials are not included in the amnesty.
