POST FALLS - A shoplifter call led police to the arrest of a Post Falls man Saturday night for allegedly possessing methamphetamine.
Joseph M. Quinones, 24, was arrested shortly after he left the Walmart on Mullan Avenue and was suspected of stealing a cellphone.
Store security provided police the license plate number and direction of travel of Quinones' gray Chevy Blazer.
Security staff told police Quinones was observed on surveillance inside the store cutting the cellphone box off a security peg, which is designed to deter theft.
"The male then wrapped the cellphone box into a black T-shirt," the police report states.
When he was stopped after leaving the store, Quinones allegedly provided police with a false name and birthdate. Quinones later told police he lied about the information because he was scared.
"Joseph went on to say that his friend was rushing him so he cut the box off of the display rack," the report states.
Walmart security told police Quinones is a Walmart theft suspect from alleged previous incidents.
Quinones apparently left both the cellphone and T-shirt in different areas of the store after becoming "spooked," police said.
After Quinones was pulled over, a baggie of meth was found inside a wallet in his possession.
"Joseph stated it wasn't his, but it was in his possession," the report sates.
Quinones was booked into the Kootenai County jail for burglary and felony possession of a controlled substance. He was also issued a misdemeanor citation for petit theft and a trespass warning, per Walmart's request.
