COEUR d'ALENE - Power outages during the past weekend affected 5,211 Kootenai County Avista customers mainly due to inclement weather and equipment problems.

Laurine Jue, spokesperson for Avista, said a Monday outage that affected 2,300 Coeur d'Alene residents was due to equipment failure, but it was fixed in less than an hour.

More than 2,000 Avista customers were affected in three separate outages on Saturday due to the stormy weather.

Another 663 Avista customers in Hayden and Rathdrum also went without power at various times during the weekend.

Kootenai Electric Cooperative said its customers are also experiencing outages due to weather.

"We continue to have scattered power outages across our system. Areas affected include Hayden, Rathdrum, Garwood, Twin Lakes and Worley," stated a note posted on its website at 2 p.m. Monday. "With the exception of a small outage near Kidd Island, KEC crews are on site or have been dispatched to the outages. We ask that members continue reporting power outages or hazards to our dedicated outage line."

To report an outage to KEC call: 1-877-744-1055. Avista customers can call 1-800-227-9187 to report an outage.
