More than $5,000 worth of jewelry and other merchandise was stolen from a Coeur d'Alene clothing store over the weekend.
The Coeur d'Alene Police Department was notified of the burglary on Monday morning by a woman who is friends with the owner of Sandra Kay's - a women's clothing store located at 308 E. Sherman Ave.
According to a police report on the incident, officers were told that on Friday the owner of the store suffered an injury and that required her to be transported to the hospital. Several customers were in the store when this occurred and the report states that "a group of men" stayed to wait for an employee to arrive.
When the store was opened Saturday morning, nothing was disturbed or missing and according to the report, the employee who closed the store told police she locked all the doors.
Sandra Kay's was closed on Sunday, and according to the report, the owner's friend opened the store on Monday morning. The front door was locked when she arrived, but when she got inside the store she told officers she immediately noticed that jewelry was missing.
Since the owner's friend does not typically work at the store, the report states she called an employee. When the employee arrived, the two determined that the back door to the business was unlocked sometime after the store was closed Saturday night.
When officers arrived at the scene, they were told that several elastic arm bands, several inexpensive rings and coins were missing. A glass display case near the front of the store had two shelves of jewelry, worth $5,000, missing as well.
"I could see no signs of forced entry to the business," the officer wrote. "I photographed the area and fingerprinted the bowl and the glass shelves of the display case where the jewelry had been taken."
The officer added that he was able to lift several partial fingerprints from the scene and place them into evidence. According to the report, the stolen items' total value is $5,445.
