Moses Lake Manta Rays close regular season in Ellensburg

ELLENSBURG - The Moses Lake Manta Rays closed the regular season at the Winter Open Swim Meet in Ellensburg recently.
Zachary Washburn set meet records in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle. Washburn also placed first in the 100-yard individual medley and the 100-yard fly.
Jessica Williams placed in the top eight in nine events, including fourth in the 100-yard individual medley. Christopher Vidrine took first place in the 50-yard freestyle and grabbed two second place finishes in the 100-yard fly and 200-yard freestyle.
Megan Washburn placed second in the 200-yard backstroke, while Jordan Richeson placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke and seventh in the 200-yard individual medley.
Cora Dana took second place in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.
The club will now turn its focus to the postseason. The 14 and under junior champs meets will be held in Ellensburg beginning Feb. 14. The Inland Empire Champs will be two weeks later in Moscow, Idaho. Over 30 Manta Ray swimmers will compete either meet.
Unattached swimmers shine
Local unattached swimmers Luke MacDougall, Ian MacDougall and Eric Kemper had another successful meet in Ellensburg.
Kemper placed in the top eight of all 10 events he swam and also qualified for the Age Group Regional in the 100-yard fly.
Luke was the top swimmer in the 13-14 age group and qualified for another two events for the Age Group Regionals. He has now qualified in all events except the 200-yard breaststroke, where he is .2 of a second away.
Ian qualified for A Champs in the 200-yard individual medley and finished second in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 34.04 seconds. He placed in the top seven in six seventh at the meet.

COEUR D'ALENE - Head coach Jaime Garza would've loved for Moses Lake to win the Tri-State Tournament for the first time in 20 years, but he will settle with being the best squad from Washington.
