Crash knocks out power for thousands

COEUR d’ALENE — A one car crash near the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Huetter Road took out a power pole at 2:30 p.m. and briefly interrupted power to at least 2,626 Avista customers in northern Kootenai County.
Sheriff’s Lt. Stu Miller is reporting that Huetter Road is closed from Prairie Avenue to Big Sky Road due to a live power line that is down over the road.
Avista crews are on scene and power was restored for most customers at 2:46 p.m., full power was expected to be restored by 5:30 p.m.
Miller reports traffic signals are out at the intersections of Atlas Road and Prairie as well as Atlas and Hanley Avenue. Drivers are urged to treat those intersections like four-way stops until power is restored.
