Lady Savage Heat fight through injuries

HOT SPRINGS – The Lady Savage Heat met the Lady Bobcats at Superior Friday night and then traveled to Seeley to play against the Lady Blackhawks on Saturday.
The Hot Springs girls have had a tough few weeks due to sickness and injuries—but despite that they rallied together to compete.
“We only had seven players all weekend due to illness,” Head Coach Robert Kearney said. “That hurt us immensely but it is a learning experience for the younger players.”
The first quarter against the Lady Bobcats was difficult for the Hot Springs girls and ended with a 14 point difference. Superior outscored the Lady Savage Heat by another 10 points in the second quarter. The score going into halftime was 9-33.
The third quarter was the best for the Lady Savage Heat with nine points. They were out-scored by four points in the fourth quarter and the final score was 24-57.
The Lady Savage Heat struggled against Superior but Meara Schmiedbauer played a good game.
Schmiedbauer led her team with 15 points. Her sister, Laurel, contributed three points and Josey Carr added six.
After a hand injury last week, Head Coach Robert Kearney was unsure if Carr would be able to play this week. Carr and the rest of her teammates are determined to finish out the season by doing the best they can.
The game against Seeley-Swan was a nonconference game for the Lady Savage Heat, yet they tried hard as if it was.
The Lady Blackhawks got off to an early lead with a score of 3-19 at the end of the first quarter.
They continued reaching double digits in the second quarter and the score at halftime was 8-35. The Lady Savage Heat strained to keep up.
In the third quarter, Hot Springs only scored one less point than Seeley-Swan but the Blackhawks finished strong with another 13 points in the fourth quarter. The final score was 21-56.
Meara led her team in points again with eight. Carr followed with five points and Chelsea Ramstad had four.
Next week the Lady Savage Heat will have a conference game against Noxon and will travel to face the Trotters in Plains on Saturday.
“We always look forward to playing Noxon but it is always difficult on the road,” Coach Kearney said. “These rivalry games are good because the players are so motivated.”

Lady Hawks, Trotters meet on field
PLAINS – The girls wore shades under their helmets in preparation for the sunny day out in the field. The light breeze carried the smell of hotdogs roasting next to the concession stand. The crowd grew quiet as the first batter stepped up to the plate while her teammates cheered her on.
