Basketball roundup: Capital pulls away from Flathead in second half

HELENA — A 21-point third quarter allowed top-ranked Helena Capital to pull away from Flathead for good, winning the Western AA boys basketball contest 63-37 on Saturday afternoon.

Capital (13-1 overall, 7-0 league) held Flathead (5-9, 1-5) to single-digit scoring in every quarter but the third.

Capital led 25-17 at the half and 46-29 heading into the fourth quarter.

Carson Dummer tallied 18 points for Capital. Kyle Harrington and Kyle Nickol were next with 16 and 14, respectively.

Matt Quist topped Flathead with nine points.

Columbia Falls led 30-14 at the half.

Ty Morgan led a balanced Columbia Falls attack with 15 points.

Andrew Weltz topped Polson with 10 points.

Polson travels to Corvallis on Tuesday while Columbia Falls plays at Ronan on Thursday.
