LEWISTON - Struggling early in the first round of the 5A Region 1 girls basketball tournament, the No. 3 seed Lake City Timberwolves lost big to the No. 2 seed Lewiston Bengals, falling 67-40 on Friday night at Booth Hall.
The Timberwolves (10-11) turned the ball over 21 times in the game and the Bengals staked a 34-18 halftime lead.
"We came out and we had some serious foul trouble early on," Lake City coach Bryan Kelly said. "They shot the ball really well tonight and defensively their pressure caused quite a few turnovers."
Sophomore guard Cierra Dvorak scored 16 points and three steals for Lake City. Senior post Madi Farrell pulled down eight rebounds.
Halle White scored 12 points for the Bengals (19-2), who had to hold on to win 51-47 at Lake City last Saturday.
Lake City plays Tuesday at 7 p.m. at home against No. 4 seed Post Falls in a loser-out game.
Lewiston plays Wednesday at No. 1 seed Coeur d'Alene at 7 p.m. in the Region 1 championship game.
