Basketball roundup: Corvallis sweeps Polson

CORVALLIS — Andrew Weltz scored 19 points and Cedric Smith had 18, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a slow first quarter as Polson (3-12) lost 68-60 to Corvallis (8-7) in a nonconference boys basketball game Tuesday night. 

The Pirates fell behind 21-9 after the first eight minutes, and were never able to make up the difference despite a valiant comeback effort. Polson outscored the Blue Devils 18-9 in the second quarter to enter halftime down only three points, but couldn’t keep pace out of the break, falling down 10 points by the start of the fourth. 

Brigham Parish had 25 points and Jayce Gilder had 20 for Corvallis.

BONNERS FERRY, Idaho —  The Libby boys (1-14) kept their game with Bonners Ferry close, but weren’t able to hang on late, losing a nonconference road game. 

Colin Johnson and Jared Winslow each scored eight points to lead the Loggers.

POLSON — Corrine Sanderson scored 14 points to lead Corvallis past Polson in a nonconferene girls basketball game on Tuesday night. 

The Blue Devils never trailed, leading 11-7 after the first quarter and 27-15 at halftime. 

Nichole Lake and Skyla Krantz each scored six points for the Lady Pirates, who saw nine girls score in the game.
