Karola Karolina Brueher, age 86, resident of Spokane, Wash., passed away February 10, 2014, at Fairview Assisted Living Center in Spokane.

Karola was born September 2, 1927, in Germany to Hermann and Berta (Bucher) Anwander. She moved to this area in 1966 from Fayetteville, N.C. Karola and her husband Rex owned and operated the Sunset Bar in Coeur d'Alene for many years.

Karola is survived by her son, Raymund Merrick; daughters, Lola Knapp and Peggy Kaya; grandchildren: Tatiana Casiano, Taylen R. Merrick, and Alesandro Parisi; great grandchildren: Aryciana and Arysten Casiano; brother, Hermann; and sisters, Berta, Ida, Gertrude, and Gloria. Karola's husband, Rex, preceded her in death on October 23, 2005.

Karola's cremated remains will be laid to rest at 9 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 14, at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene, is in charge of arrangements. Please visit Karola's online memorial and sign her guest registry at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
