MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake soccer star Caylah Lunning is headed to Eastern Washington University.

The two-sport athlete signed her letter of intent to play soccer for the Eagles recently. Lunning said it was an unbelievable feeling to receive the offer from Eastern and felt excited to sign her letter of intent.

"It was close to home and it was a Division I school so it just kind of was the right fit," she said.

Lunning helped the Chiefs to a Columbia Basin Big Nine title, district title and state tournament berth this season. She is excited to begin college, but will still miss a few things from her time playing for Moses Lake.

"The thing that I'll miss most is probably playing for Ric (Char) and just playing in front of my home town, but I'm excited for a change," she said.

Lunning was third in goals this season for Moses Lake with six and led the team with 12 assists. She was also named to the CBBN all-league first team this past season.

"Caylah is one of the best players to come out of the program and she's the first player of the year recipient for us, first team all-league for several years, one of the highest goal scorers in our program's history," head coach Ric Char said. "She was a captain this year so she's going to be missed, but she's going on to bigger and better things and I think it's a good fit for her at Eastern."

Char expects Lunning to contribute early to an Eagles team that was second to last in the Big Sky Conference this past season.

"I just think she's going to bring her work ethic, her athleticism," he said. "She's got a great touch and distribution for herself and she's going to get into the offense. I think she's going to contribute on offense for them and I think she's going to see playing time right away."

Lunning also thanked everyone that supported her throughout the years.
