Othello first at districts, Ephrata third

ELLENSBURG - Defending 2A state champion and No. 3 ranked Othello flexed its muscles this past weekend at the CWAC District 5/6 Wrestling Championships.
The Huskies scored 334 points en rout to the win. Ephrata was third with 243 points.
Othello's Isaiah Barrera took second place at 106 pounds after falling to Selah's Carlos Lopez in the finals, 3-4.
Alec Lauriano and Ben Garza placed third and eighth, respectively, at 113 pounds. Lauriano fell in the quarterfinals to Grandview's Fidel Medina, 0-6.
Othello's Jerry Escamilla placed third in the 120-pound division, while his teammate Collin Freeman took fifth.
Ephrata's Carlos Flores and Miguel Rodriguez placed fourth and seventh, respectively.
It was an all Othello battle for third place at 126 pounds. Adrian Flores pinned teammate Reese Jones to nab a place on the podium.
Jamail Bell-Earl, of Ephrata, took sixth place.
Othello was able to score crucial points when Manny Martinez was able to defeat Grandview's Diego Castaneda in the 132-pound final, 15-8.
Lorenzo Garza and David Freeman, of Othello, took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 138-pound division.
Othello's Danny Cantu defeated Aaron Pimentel, 6-5, in the finals of the 145-pound division.
Abraham Gonzalez (152 .lbs) placed third for the Huskies. Ephrata's Bryce Unruh finished second at 160 pounds, while teammate Dalton Balentine scored a win at 170 pounds. Othello's Jesus Montes placed third.
Defending state champion Tyrus Kemp, of Ephrata, cruised into the semifinals after two byes and an injury default, but found himself in a battle with Othello's Anthony Ruiz. However, Kemp eventually prevailed, 8-0.
Ephrata's Isaac Garcia (220 .lbs) placed second and Othello's Bubba Ruiz (285 .lbs) took first, narrowly edging Toppenish's Robert Luna in the finals, 1-0.
