Valentine's Day is almost here, and it is a great time to think about our loved ones and the special gift of love and companionship they bring.

Where did this holiday come from? It turns out that in Roman times, a priest named Valentine disobeyed the emperor and married soldiers before they went off to war. Later he became a saint, and this began the tradition of Valentine's Day. Luckily, my husband never had to go off to war, but he has travelled a lot over the years and I always look forward to his return.

There is nothing more important to me than my husband! He is my rock. He lifts me up and will literally go to all ends of the earth for the kids and me. When I set a goal, he is the first to cheer me on to reach for the stars. He makes sure I have what I need to achieve whatever my dreams may be. Who could ask for a better partner?

Valentine's Day is my day to tell my husband that I love him, and hold hands while we share our day together. It doesn't have to be about buying extravagant gifts. It is about being together and showing gratitude by holding hands, sharing hugs, and enjoying the journey called "life" together. I wish you all a happy Valentine's Day! Be sure to give those you love an extra kiss and hug, so they feel loved on this special day.

Still looking for a unique and special gift? We have super-soft and cuddly alpaca bears and stuffed alpacas. We also have warm alpaca socks, if you prefer to give a more practical gift. They say there's a little love in every stitch.

Let your mind help you achieve your goals in 2015

With the New Year here, it seems each year flies by a little faster as I find myself looking towards the future and what I want to accomplish in 2015. If you have read any of my articles, you know that I am a big fan of planning my destiny and not letting myself be pulled into reactionary mode from the current day's events. Each year, I look for opportunities to move me out of my comfort zone. I feel it is very important to believe in yourself, and sometimes, it is as simple as finding someone that has done what you want to do, and did it exceptionally well. You can then model what the person did in order to achieve your goal. Say for instance, you want to participate in an Ironman race one year from now. Find someone who has successfully trained and participated in the race and study what they did - food prep, exercises, daily schedules, etc. - so you can get laser-focused on a proven path to pursue. This person will give you the "recipe" for success if you are willing to listen and commit to a plan of action that you can immediately get started on.

Alpaca socks help diabetics with cold feet

This week's blast of snow and cold weather brought many customers into our store in search of warm alpaca socks. I often get to visit with them to understand their needs. A recurring theme I hear from them is cold feet due to diabetes. As a nurse, I witnessed first-hand the toll diabetes takes on my patient's bodies. I also witnessed it in my own family, losing my brother Craig to the disease two years ago.
