PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Second quarter run lifts Warriors to win

COEUR d'ALENE - A key 14-4 second quarter run propelled Kootenai to a 41-30 win Wednesday over Clark Fork, in the District 1A Division II championsip game at Lake City High School.

"In the second quarter, we came out and had a pretty good defensive run," Kootenai coach Mike LaFountaine said. "Katey May (McInturff) and Lacy Goodson both scored a lot of points in that quarter. "

McInturff (eight points) and Goodson (five) combined for 13 of the 14 Warriors points.

Savanna Dutton came off the bench for the Warriors (8-9) and made two layups to give Kootenai a 30-23 lead in the fourth quarter.

McInturff scored 20 points for the Warriors.

Clark Fork finished 2-18.

Kootenai will face either Kendrick or Summit Academy at St. Maries in a state 1A Division II play-in game on Saturday at 3 p.m.

COEUR d'ALENE - The Knights extended a two-point halftime lead and beat the Miners in second game of a best-of-three 1A Division I District 1 tournament at Lake City High.

Seniors Kim Duncan and Avery Brown-Sonder each scored 18 points for the Knights (10-12) and Duncan played strong defense down the stretch.

"Kim played a full court press defense nearly the entire game," Lakeside assistant coach Sheldon Pine said. "She scored off of some of them at really crucial times in the game. The whole team played really well and all worked together well and played tough the whole time. It was a knockdown, drag-out game."

The teams will meet again tonight at 6 at Lake City High, with the winner advancing to a state 1A Division I play-in game on Saturday at St. Maries.

Cailyn Dohrman added 13 points. Duncan also had eight steals and Brown-Sonder had six rebounds and six steals. Dohrman grabbed eight rebounds. Deeanna Crowe had five steals.

Jordan Browning scored 12 points for Wallace (15-5).

TROY - Grangeville pulled away late in the first quarter to take a 16-7 lead over St. Maries, in the 2A District 1-2 semifinal at Troy High.

"We had some turnovers, they got some steals and converted," St. Maries coach Jay Sines said. "We closed the gap late in the third quarter, we got within eight points and we ran out of steam."

Lumberjacks post Kelsey Auer had 17 points and 10 rebounds and her older sister, post Kirsten Auer had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Amy Waddell had five steals for St. Maries (10-9). Hailey Sullivan scored 23 points for Grangeville (17-4).

St. Maries faces Coeur d'Alene Charter in a loser-out game at Kootenai High tonight at 6.

TROY - Coeur d'Alene Charter put away a convincing win early, in the 2A District 1-2 tournament loser-out game at Troy High.

The Panthers staked a big 18-4 lead after the first quarter.

"We ran our sets and we shot the ball better," Charter coach Doug Grant said. "We played better team basketball. The girls had a rough stretch for a while. They played very well together."

Mae Alexander scored 11 points for Charter. Jacklyn Jensen had 19 rebounds and Sara Hayman added 14.

Coeur d'Alene Charter faces St. Maries tonight at Kootenai High.
