Fitting with the name, an interesting and tasty array of burgers is the mainstay (and namesake) of Schmidty's Burgers. The new eatery opened Thursday at 206 N. Fourth St. (the home of the former Scrud's Diner, which evidently moved to Ogden, Utah).

Schmidty's menu features a variety of drumsticks as its signature of several appetizers and adds nine burgers (with add-ons available), salads, fish and chicken baskets, a Kid's Korner and beverages (including beer).

Seating about 40 people, Schmidty's decor has a beachy-sports theme. Owners Nate and Denise Schmidt have several years in the service industry and five "helping" sons.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 to 3 Sundays. Phone 292-4545.

The Gym moves north

After three years at 1701 Fourth St., Josh and Valerie Queen have moved The Gym to Suites C1 and C2 of Northern Lights Mall at 471 Haycraft (at U.S. 95).

Working with clients from kids to seniors, the Queens and trainers Kirk Brown, Donna DeVerniero, Jimmy Lewis and Leah Penkunis offer personal training and workouts with goals ranging from weight loss to athlete training and helping those with disabilities and limitations.

Hours are 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Phone Josh at 704-2877 or Valerie at 659-1130.

Beverage Shack opens on Fourth

Offering convenience store specialties with the advantage of drive-through service, The Beverage Shack has opened at 2020 N. Fourth St. (just south of the Interstate 90 interchange).

The choices include soda, juice, tea, beer, cigarettes, milk, eggs, butter, batteries, medicines and candies.

"All you need to do is drive through the middle and one of the clerks will come out to greet you and grab everything you need," said Dan Duvall, owner with his wife Amanda. "We can even run your credit card right there outside your window." The Duvalls also own Hayden Qwik Stop.

Hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Phone 966-4062.

Stoddard Park seeks food place

A food and beverage business is in the plans for Stoddard Park on Prairie Avenue west of Ramsey Road.

The City of Hayden has changed a former dairy farm into a park with a homestead theme. It includes the farm house, patio, barn, silo, corral and walking paths on nine acres.

"We're looking for something that would complement the neighborhood and make it a community amenity," said Connie Krueger, community and economic development director. Phone 209-2021.
