SPOKANE - Mitch Holmberg had two goals and an assist, and Eric Williams stopped 34 shots as the Spokane Chiefs beat the Everett Silvertips 5-2 in Western Hockey League play Sunday night before 5,018 at Spokane Arena.
Holmberg scored goals No. 50 and 51, and recorded assist No. 49. He became the ninth player in Chiefs' history to score 50 or more goals in a season, and the first since Tyler Johnson did it in 2011. He also became the 16th Chief to score 100 points in a season.
The Chiefs beat Everett for the 18th straight time at the Spokane Arena, a streak stretching back to the 2011 season. Spokane snapped a two-game losing streak to Everett this season, and has now won seven of nine meetings with the Silvertips.
Holmberg's first goal at 17:19 of the second period put Spokane ahead 2-1, a lead the Chiefs would not relinquish. Mike Aviani scored his 32nd goal at 11:34 of the third to make it 4-2, and Holmberg added an empty netter with 38 seconds left.
Spokane (34-20-3-2, 73 points) is six points back of Seattle for second place in the U.S. Division, and is in fifth place behind Seattle in the Western Conference.
Adam Helewka had three assists for the Chiefs, who play host to Prince Albert on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
